More about Illicit Affairs...

Having an Illicit Affair – it almost sounds like something illegal doesn’t it, but be sure it isn’t against the law – if it was there wouldn’t be enough prisons to keep all the offenders in. It really is only natural for you to be sexually attracted to someone else you come in contact with. Even if you refuse to admit it, it really is something you can’t control. You look at them and you know you would like to have sex with them – there is perhaps no thought of the implications, or how things might turn out long term – the one thought at that moment is more than likely to be sex. The big question is, are you going to do something about it? It might be someone you see regularly, a work colleague who you spend a lot of time in close proximity to. Or it might just be someone who gets on the same train as you every morning, or someone working in your local shop. Where-ever, whatever, sexual attraction is inevitable and unavoidable. And if you are already in a relationship, perhaps even married, then a sexual encounter with someone else could be termed illicit. The word “affair” is probably only reserved for married people which does lead to the curious concept that if one of the people in the relationship is married, but the other isn’t, which must happen often enough, then the married person is having an affair, while possibly the unmarried one isn’t. Or do we think the whole thing, the whole relationship should be called an affair?
Possibly, but as we have said the relationship only becomes an affair when one or both participants are married. If neither are married it would just be called a relationship with nothing illicit about it, but if one or both of the partners were already in a relationship, it would probably be thought of as illicit by whoever judges these things.
